Load rating is the measure of a bridge’s ability to carry a given live load. Knowledge of the capacity of each bridge is critical for its proper functioning. A Load Rating that reflects the current condition of each bridge and provides a valuable tool that is used in identifying the need for load posting or bridge strengthening and in making overweight-vehicle permit decisions. Load Ratings are also used in the bridge management system to prioritize bridge repairs and replacements.


This session presents a general overview of what is load rating, its application and the process to perform it. We will cover step-by-step process for performing the load rating with a simple model. The step-by-step process will be explained. The program offers all the tools needed to perform the bridge analysis and load rating. Attendees will be familiarized with the midas Civil program and will learn about its advantages.
