The purpose of this training is to address how model a complex structure with unconventional bridge structures, geometric irregularities and complex construction sequences.

The geometric irregularities include tapered (varying depth) girders, flared ends and bridge splits. Regarding the complex construction sequences, a rehabilitation project will be discussed as an example project.

Projects Discussed in this Session

Project Information
Steel Composite I Girder Bridge
Construction Type: Rehabilitation
Remarks: varying bridge width, additional girder line joining

Discussion Overview
1. Steel Composite I Girder Bridge Rehabilitation example
• Manual modeling approach
- CAD import and other manual modeling functions
- How to manage tedious link modeling
• Construction Stage Set up for rehabilitation project
- Flexible CS set up for rehab projects
• Moving load analysis
- Moving load analysis for the varying deck width

Project Information
Prestressed concrete I Girder Bridge
Construction Type: New construction
Remarks: Girder in transverse direction, parts of girders uncovered with the bridge deck

Discussion Overview
2. Prestressed Concrete I Girder Bridge example
• Manual Modeling
- CAD import and other manual modeling functions
- Deck lies in the transverse direction
• Construction Stage Set up for the non-uniform deck pouring
- How to distinguish/differentiate non-composite & composite parts
• Moving Load Analysis
- How to run moving load for the project with the transverse girders
- How to run moving load analysis during the rehab construction

Please note that the PDH credit will not be provided for attending this course.
