Initial Water Level respect to the suction drain

The attendee will learn the use of several advance functions of GTS NX, which allows the numerical analysis of settlement by 2 methods. From this tutorial, the participant will understand the workflow associated with the fully coupled stress seepage analysis of an embankment during settlement and will understand the difference with consolidation analysis of the embankment. Finally, the participant will be able to compare results between semi and fully coupled stress seepage analyzes of a wall excavation.

Within the coupled analysis model, this example will also compare the results between the suction drainage method and free drainage of an embankment constructed in stages.

Excavation dewatering - comparison of sequential and fully-coupled analysis

Main objectives
Initial and long term settlements during and after construction
Compressibility
Lateral ground flow
Slope failure / reduction of bearing capacity
Differential settlement on adjacent structures, services (road)
Improvement methods – drainage, solidification, compaction
